Our Engagement Story
We spent a full year without seeing each other when Emmanuel first left Kenya to work in the US and we were both over the moon with excitement when he finally got the opportunity to come visit in December 2012.
On 12.12.12 (talk about a perfect date!) we went out with a couple of friends for what I thought was an appreciation dinner for the guys who had supported a mutual friend, Joe (the best man) through his album project (he's an amazing musician). Emmanuel and I just happened to be among those people that had worked on Joe’s album, and the other guys also happened to be our close friends so that was great excuse!
So we arrive in this lovely restaurant around Karen for the dinner and I was so anxious to see Emmanuel coz I had barely seen him that day and I really wanted to maximize the time we had together. He wasn’t there though so we just got into the restaurant and sat down as we waited for him to arrive.
Suddenly as we were within the restaurant the lights went out and it was total darkness. We were advised to go outside as there were lights there. I found that a bit odd but I didn’t really give it so much thought. As we were walking out heading towards the lights, I noticed that I was all over a sudden walking alone, all my friends had gone to the side.
I looked down and it was a path of candles, littered with rose petals. I wasn’t wearing my glasses so I couldn’t see what was on the end of the path, but as I came closer I saw Emmanuel standing there in a white tux and it hit me what was happening and I was so overwhelmed. Eventually I got to him and he took my hands in his, went down on one knee and said lots of sweet stuff which I honestly can’t remember ☺ before he asked me to grant him the honor of being his wife. I said yes of course!
